Early Years Foundation Stage

In Reception class we enjoy a wide range of different activities every day with our caring, dedicated and approachable staff. Our focus is on learning in a fun, engaging and creative way. We use our own dedicated outdoor learning space, perfect for riding our bikes and trikes; and have access to all the facilities of the school, including the forest area.

We have a daily phonics lesson using our programme - Little Wandle Letters and Sounds - and all children are encouraged to start their reading journey with confidence, using a range of e-books and real books. We love sharing and reading stories together in class. Children learn the basics of maths and the focus on early number work helps to provide children with the building blocks for success in mathematics.

Our creative and ambitious curriculum sees the children enjoying subjects such as expressive art, music and sports daily. The curriculum is based on a termly theme, but we also have the flexibility to follow the interests of the children and to respond to events and opportunities in the world around us. Termly, the children are able to experience an educational visit and these have recently taken us to the theatre, the miniature pony centre and the farm park.

Children are provided with a healthy mid-morning snack and are all entitled to a free universal school meal, cooked and served on-site.

We offer transition sessions to help new starters settle in and work closely with pre school to help support the children in making a flying start to their education.

Our reception class are fully included in all school events, and to help them feel settled and confident in the wider school community, each one of them has a Year 6 buddy - it is wonderful to see our oldest and youngest children develop positive and nurturing relationships.

We welcome new families to tour the school prior to making an application for a school place.
